Ubiquinones, a series of homologous molecules with a quinone active center and an unsaturated fatty tail, are widely distributed (i.e. ubiquitous) in nature and throughout the human body. Structurally similar to the menaquinones like vitamin K2, the quinone group acts as a courier for protons and electrons, enabling ubiquinones to function as antioxidants and intermediates in energy generation. The fatty tail, composed of isoprenoid subunits, helps biosynthesis of critical components like immune modulators, essential oils, and hormones. Ubiquinone-10 (also known as CoQ10, coenzyme Q10, or simply Q) is the most prevalent ubiquinone in almost all mammals, including humans.
Jarrow Formulas QH-Absorb, featuring ubiquinol (the active form of CoQ10), has been clinically shown to increase CoQ10 levels by 222% (100 mg per day) and by 777% (300 mg per day) over baseline.(1) These ubiquinol supplements utilize the Q-absorb natural, proliposomal delivery system for enhanced absorption and are gluten-free with no major allergens. Adults are suggested to take one softgel one to three times a day with a meal or as directed by a qualified healthcare professional.
CoQ10 is found in energy-rich tissues like the heart and helps promote mitochondrial health, cellular energy production, and healthy cardiovascular function.(1) Ubiquinol, the "active antioxidant" form of CoQ10, is necessary for CoQ10 to achieve its important functions in energy production, cardiovascular health, and antioxidant protection.* The two forms, ubiquinone (Q) and ubiquinol (QH), work together by shuttling electrons and protons, cyclically transforming from one to the other.
Unfortunately, aging and illness can lead to a reduced ability to regenerate QH and a decreased ability to absorb Q, resulting in a decline in total Q levels and QH levels in various critical tissues. Taking QH can provide benefits that surpass those obtained from taking standard Q. A study on young, healthy adults showed that consumption of QH-absorb (100 mg, three times daily) for 14 days resulted in a 777% mean increase of total CoQ10 levels compared to baseline and a 100% increase in plasma QH levels, the "active antioxidant" form of CoQ10.
These findings suggest that even young, healthy individuals can benefit from taking ubiquinol (reduced CoQ10) from QH-absorb, and that QH-absorb is at least twice as efficient in raising blood CoQ10 levels compared to the best Q supplements.(1) Toxicity studies have shown little concern with taking QH directly, even at high doses, and supplementation with QH does not reduce CoQ10 biosynthesis in the body.
Jarrow Formulas' complete line of over 350 nutritional products includes QH-Absorb, a ubiquinol dietary supplement for healthy cardiovascular function support.(1) Customers can be assured of purity, value, and potency when choosing these products.
